There is no single answer. The timeline depends on the student's age, how many hours they give each day, and above all consistency. As a rough guide, many full-time students complete Hifz in around two to three years, while part-time students who also attend school usually take longer.

The three-part daily routine

  • Sabaq: the new portion memorized today.
  • Sabqi: revision of the last few days' lessons.
  • Manzil: revision of older portions so nothing is forgotten.

Tips for parents

  • Fix the same time every day, ideally after Fajr when the mind is fresh.
  • Ask your child to recite their Sabaq to you before class.
  • Never skip Manzil to rush ahead. Strong revision is what makes a Hafiz.

With online Hifz classes, children abroad can memorize with a dedicated teacher without travelling to a madrasa.
